My Favorite Natural Hair Products

“What hair products do you use?”

I wish I had a quarter for every time I heard that question; I’d use that money to go out and buy more hair products. What can I say? I’m a product junkie. So while I’m usually on the receiving end of that burning question, I also find myself asking other ladies which products they use to maintain their manes. I LOVE trying out new products, so recommendations sometimes help me narrow down which products to try next. While I have made an effort to curb my product junkie-ism, I do add a new product into the rotation every now and then. Here’s a list of my current favorite natural hair products, broken down by brand:

Eden BodyWorks

I like to use the Peppermint Tea Tree Shampoo whenever I need a good, deep cleanse. It’s not the most moisturizing shampoo, but it’s not particularly drying either. It leaves my scalp feeling squeaky clean, which I love.

When using this line, I generally alternate between the Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner and the Coconut Shea Hair Masque Treatment. They both give me good results, but I really like the Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner because it’s not as thick and my hair seems to absorb it a little better.

The Coconut Shea Leave-In Conditioner is a lightweight conditioner that pairs well with the Pudding Souffle and the Curl Defining Creme, which are both great for twistouts. The Curl Defining Creme is heavier and provides a slightly stronger hold. It’s also just a bit more moisturizing, which is great during the colder months.

DevaCurl

After getting my first DevaCut, I started to incorporate DevaCurl products into my routine. They are the priciest products on this list, but they work well on my hair. I offset the cost by looking out for deals and rotating them in my routine so that the products last longer. Generally, I use this line whenever I do a wash n go.

Best wash n go ever. Thanks, DevaCurl!

I use the Decadence line pictured above, which is formulated for “super curly” hair that craves more moisture.

No-Poo is a creamy cleanser that does not lather. It is not drying at all, which is great, but I do sometimes find myself using a lot of it in order for my hair and scalp to feel clean, which is probably the only downside.

One Condition is a rinse-out conditioner that makes detangling easy and leaves my hair feeling soft and moisturized. It can also be used as a leave-in.

The Ultra Defining Gel is my favorite hair gel. It provides great hold and definition. As with any gel, if you use too much, it can make your hair a little crunchy. A little goes a long way.

Camille Rose Naturals

I have fallen head over heels in love with Camille Rose Naturals products! The Curl Love Moisture Milk was the first product I tried from this line, and it instantly became a staple product in my stash. It makes my hair feel really soft and it smells like cake batter. Yum. I use the Curl Love Moisture Milk on both wet and dry hair.

The Sweet Ginger Cleansing Rinse is my favorite shampoo. It’s not stripping or drying at all, and it has slip, so I can also detangle my hair while shampooing. I usually follow up with the Algae Renew Deep Conditioner, which has quickly become my favorite deep conditioner. When I use it regularly, it truly does live up to its promise of reducing shedding and breakage.

The Almond Jai Twisting Butter gives me some of the most defined twistouts ever. This product is a little heavy, so I have to make sure I don’t use too much, otherwise it can make my hair feel a little bit coated.

Twistout fabulosity, thanks to Camille Rose Naturals Almond Jai Twisting Butter

Jane Carter Solution

The Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner spray from Jane Carter Solution is an absolute must-have in my routine. I like to spray it on my hair in the morning or whenever it’s feeling a little dry to help bring it back to life. This is my go-to daily moisturizer. I’m looking forward to trying other Jane Carter products.

Shea Moisture

This list wouldn’t be complete without a little Shea Moisture love. Shea Moisture is one of the first natural hair brands I ever tried. These days, the company is rolling out new lines faster than I can add them to my shopping cart, but the Coconut & Hibiscus line remains a favorite.

I especially love the Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Conditioner. It’s a rinse-out conditioner, but I use it as a leave-in. It makes my hair really soft and gives it great definition when I do a wash n go. It’s lightweight, so my hair drinks it up. The Curl Enhancing Smoothie is also an old favorite. I’ve been using this line since 2013, and it hasn’t failed me yet.

Honorable Mention

I use these products less often, but I love them just the same:

  • Eden BodyWorks Coconut Shea Cleansing CoWash (I should actually move this up to my favorites list)
  • Kinky Curly Knot Today Detangling Leave-In
  • Giovanni Direct Leave-In
  • Jane Carter Nourish & Shine
  • CURLS Brand Goddess Curls Gel
  • Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Line
  • Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo and Conditioner

As always, remember that it usually takes trial and error to find the right products and develop a hair care routine that works for your unique head of hair. There is no magical product that works for everybody. Let me know if you have any questions about anything I’ve listed here. What are some of your favorite products?
